Configuring IP Protector to access your other software

The software provides easy-click access to your documents and information on the Internet using your browser. The IP Protector does this by using your Internet browser and your software for viewing documents.

How to change which software is used to view your documents.
The configuration file for the IP-Protector is named "DGSext.ini". To determine where it is stored on your computer click here for a description.
The contents of this file determine which program on your computer is used to view files. The process is based on "file types" and works much the same as when you select and open files on your computer.

In most cases, your computer is already properly configured to associated file types with the appropriate software.

The IP Protector software will allow you to further configure these settings.
To specify an association from a file type to a particular software.
# <file type> space <external program>
# An example, using the "Excel" file viewer is a good idea because it # does not change your data. The Excel view is supplied by Microsoft # for the purpose of viewing excel files without update capability

How to determine if you view the original or a copy of your document.

Make a copy and view copy
Copy is created in your system temp directory. For example, on Windows most systems have this as their temporary directory: C:\TEMP.

Files that are created for viewing in this temporary directory should be deleted automatically when the software exits. Some software failures can cause the delete to fail. See system maintenance for more details.

The copy of the document in the temporary directory will be open using whatever software is configured for your system. See configuration instruction here.

Open Original

The actual document will be open using whatever software is configured for your system. See configuration instruction here.

Always display this window?

Un-checking this box will cause "make a copy and view copy" to occur without this prompt.
The preference to always show this window can be re-activated on the software main tab for user preferences.
